Thoughts and Prayers

No words to express the sadness...and the outrage from Friday's Newtown massacre. Seriously - there are no words to describe the feelings around this.

But I wonder if investigators will turn up any evidence that shows he was obsessed with Star Wars -- or that she was obsessed with the Cheshire, CT home invasion case. Not that either of those things is responsible or to blame, but I, like everyone else, am simply trying to comprehend all of the "why's" in this tragedy. In a time where we are all "connected" all the time, we live in a disconnected age.

I have friends that live in Newtown - while none of their children attended Sandy Hook most have kids in grade school - I can only imagine the herculean task ahead of them as parents trying to explain - and more importantly, to comfort.

And the comments to news articles on various websites are as revealing as anything else. We are a country beyond disconnected - we are so intolerant, dismissive and disrespectful of others outside of our own circles it's palpable. Why are we surprised when the vitriol spills into unspeakable violence? We are all subjected to violent, hate-driven, fear-mongering speech from all sides on a daily basis. How do we stop the madness?
